SAN DIEGO — On Saturday, March 8, 2025, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers stopped a large group of motorcyclists driving dangerously on Interstate 5 (I-5) and Interstate 805 (I-805). Officers issued citations to 30 riders and impounded their motorcycles after they performed risky stunts, blocked traffic, and for being active spectators.
The incident began around 8 a.m. when the group entered northbound I-805 at Imperial Avenue. The riders started performing stunts and driving recklessly, slowing traffic for approximately 24 miles. By 8:30 a.m., the group exited I-5 at Via De La Valle in Solana Beach, where CHP officers swiftly moved in and directed the riders into a parking lot.
Officers detained the riders, conducted a traffic enforcement stop, and issued 30 misdemeanor citations for street racing, reckless driving, and being active spectators to the illegal activity. The CHP also impounded all 30 motorcycles involved.
“The CHP remains committed to protecting the community and ensuring California’s roads are safe,” said Oceanside Captain Brad Palmer. “Reckless driving and street racing endanger everyone, and CHP will continue to take enforcement action against anyone who jeopardizes motorist safety.”
This investigation is ongoing. If anyone was traveling in the area and has video of the incident, please contact the CHP Oceanside Area, Officer E. Bermudez at (760) 643-3400.
The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security.
