VISTA, CA – Vista Community Clinic (VCC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a generous grant from Las Patronas to support and enhance its optometry services. This funding, totaling $20,000 will be used to purchase slit-lamp cameras, which are important tools for diagnosing and treating eye conditions.
Slit-lamp cameras enhances the eye doctors’ ability to monitor for changes in the eye. It allows optometrists to magnify and photograph abnormalities found inside & outside of the eye. This imaging capability helps with capturing images that are difficult to obtain with standard instrumentation, enhancing patient care—especially for conditions like diabetes and retinal tears, which can lead to vision loss.
“Adding slit-lamp cameras will make a big difference for our patients,” said Dr. Wendy Mora, VCC’s Director of Optometry. “The ability to document and track the progression of eye health issues through high-quality images will ensure our patients get the right care at the right time.”
VCC serves a patient population of more than 70,000 individuals annually, many of whom face significant barriers to accessing eye care, including poverty, transportation challenges, and limited knowledge about eye health. The grant from Las Patronas will help VCC to bridge critical gaps in care by improving the tools doctors use to care for patients.
Las Patronas is a philanthropic organization with a remarkable history of giving. Since 1946, the dedicated volunteers of Las Patronas have raised nearly $27 million to support nonprofits throughout San Diego County. Their funding supports a wide range of community needs, from health services to education and the arts.
“We are honored to partner with Las Patronas, whose commitment to improving lives in our area aligns perfectly with our mission at VCC. Their generosity will directly benefit our patients and the overall health of our community,” said VCC’s CEO, Fernando Sañudo.
