Vista, CA – WaveCrest Cafe, the public-facing name of Vista Unified School District’s Child Nutrition Services Department, is celebrating National Nutrition Month in March with a series of activities at schools across the district.
The department will bring taste tests to six schools in the district, inviting students to try new or potential menu items and bring student voices to the menu-planning process.
Student Voices Valued
“Student voices are crucial to our menu-planning process,” says Karly Wasung, Director of Child Nutrition Services. “We design opportunities all school year to provide students a forum for their insights and feedback on the meals they are offered, as well as sharing the thought and care that our team puts into designing and delivering tasty, nutritious meals.”
The department surveys students, parents, and staff after each menu cycle to assess favorite menu items and to garner new ideas that can be used in future menus. Taste tests provide focus groups to deliver immediate feedback.
